SleepHack FAQ
Common questions about subscriptions, sleep stages, scoring, data, and audio science.
+How do I recover my purchase if my subscription is missing?
Open the SleepHack app and go to Settings, then tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed into the same Apple ID or Google account that originally made the purchase. If it still does not restore, contact support with your store receipt.
+How are my sleep stages determined?
SleepHack estimates sleep stages using sensor signals during your session. It uses accelerometer motion data, processed by an on-device classification pipeline to estimate transitions between awake, light, deep, and REM patterns.
+How is my sleep score determined?
SleepHack generates a nightly score from your overall sleep architecture rather than one single signal. The score is based on factors like total sleep duration, estimated stage balance, continuity (how fragmented the night is), and consistency relative to your target schedule.
+What data does SleepHack use?
SleepHack uses the data needed to run adaptive audio and sleep tracking, such as motion sensor data, session timing, and app settings. Depending on your permissions, sleep data can also sync with Health Connect or HealthKit. You can manage privacy and consent settings in-app.
+How fast can I see improvements in my sleep?
Most users notice subjective changes like easier wind-down or fewer wake-ups within several nights. More stable changes in sleep timing and overall sleep quality usually require consistent use across multiple weeks. Results vary by stress level, schedule consistency, caffeine/alcohol timing, and sleep environment.
+What are binaural beats?
Binaural beats are an auditory effect created when each ear hears a slightly different tone. Your brain perceives the difference between those tones as a rhythmic beat. SleepHack uses this effect as one layer in its audio engine to support relaxation and stage-specific sound design.
+What is the difference between white, pink, brown, and green noise?
White noise spreads equal power across frequencies and sounds bright or hissy. Pink noise gives more energy to lower frequencies and sounds softer, like steady rain. Brown noise emphasizes low frequencies even more and sounds deeper, like distant rumble. Green noise usually refers to a mid-frequency weighted profile that feels gentler and more natural to some listeners.
+Do I need to wear a device for SleepHack to work?
No wearable is required for core functionality. SleepHack can run adaptive audio and estimate sleep with your phone sensors. If you connect external health platforms, that data can complement your tracking history.
+Can I listen with speakers or do I need headphones?
For binaural beats specifically, stereo headphones are recommended because each ear must receive a different tone. For colored noise and ambient layers, speakers can still be useful, though headphone use generally gives more controlled results.
+Can I use SleepHack as a medical diagnostic tool?
No. SleepHack is a wellness app and is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, or cure sleep disorders. If you suspect a sleep disorder, consult a licensed clinician.
+Why does the app stop in the middle of the night?
This can happen on phones that have lower memory or aggressive battery optimization. We suggest checking your phone settings for battery saver or background usage limits, as these can sometimes close apps running in the background.
